This play party is open to all genders & orientations, & any form of play allowed at the CSPC is welcomed here. Bootblacking & leathercare services will be provided by International Community Bootblack 2012, Ruin. (So bring your boots & leathers!)

About This Event:
The International Ms Bootblack competition will be celebrating it's 15th year in 2013! In honor of this monumental occasion, Leather communities across the U.S. are banding together to help raise awareness (and funds) by hosting "invasions" of local bars/clubs. Our goal is to raise a few dollars in support of the bootblacks who ply their trade within the Leather community, and keep our boots, vests, belts, and gear looking sharp.

50% of the door, along with all money raised by the raffle & bootblacking, will be given to the International Ms. Bootblack Contest. These funds will go to defray IMsBB travel costs, to obtain oral histories of the IMsBBs for the Leather Archives, and to create a video to document Leatherwomen's history for future generations.

SgoL President's Message

It’s been a spectacular summer for the Seattle girls of Leather. Fundraisers, invasions, community service, parties, and so much fun! The Luscious Lady Vi and Wendy are putting together a Leathergirl calendar and all of the photo shoots have been amazing. It has given the girls another excuse to get dressed up, be creative, and get to know each better. The calendar is due out early November and all of the proceeds will go towards SgoL’s 501c3 application. Big huge thank you’s to our photographers; Abacus, Sir Travis, Jefe, and Evan Draeger. We really enjoyed working with you all.

Krisi did a fantastic job coordinating our hospitality service at Paradise 2012. The Broads & Brews was a big hit! The beer wenches had a blast handing out Thomas Kemper Root Beer, Bratwurst, Mini Pies, and smiles. Krisi has been at almost event since she joined a few months and I will be honored to give her her patch at our next meeting. We are so glad she joined. Her spirit, enthusiasm, creativity, and level headedness is gratefully appreciated.

Christine Cummings is a transplant from San Diego and Seattle couldn’t be more pleased to have her. Her style , grace, and sense of humor has me constantly filled with joy every time I’m near her. She coordinated the color guard at paradise, got SgoL on board with NCSF, and donated lots of time and money for every fundraiser SgoL has had since she joined in the spring. She received her back patch last month, be sure to ask her about The Cash Cows if you want a great story and some giggles. Katrenia also received her patch last meeting. This girl can do anything! She welded a flag stand for us, in a corset. Her craftsmanship shows in almost everything she wears and does. She made flag stands for SgoL to gift to Paradise. They now have two beautiful, sturdy, collapsible stands that will hold six flags. Katrenia is often the first one at every SgoL event, we are very glad to be able to count on her.

Our Shoe Princess rounded up the girls and put together an order for six Ms Martha custom corsets. It was a lot of work and those of us who received the corset are very grateful. Thanks for the idea and foot work Princess! Our member-at-large, Becca, coordinated SgoL’s presence at Slutwalk. She jumped in and covered for someone almost last minute and pulled it off with much fun and success! Fathers Doll made all of our signs for Slutwalk without a blink of an eye. Thanks girls!

Chris and Wendy joined their very first meeting and immediately jumped into service. These girls know how to be of service and do it with such grace. Chris coordinated our one year party at Golden Gardens without a hitch. There were beautiful cakes from Tris, a super yummy carmel apple thingy from ReeseyMay, and lots of other awesome nosh. There was a three legged race, story telling, reminiscing, and a ton of laughter. It was my pleasure to present, from Dern’s Creations, the Seattle girls of Leather’s coat of arms. Happy first birthday SgoL!

KimberlyKate is putting on a private benefit for Marriage Matters to approve Referendum 74. The event is this Sunday September 30th from 7pm -12am. There will be popcorn, a candy buffet, and an outdoor movie screening. And if I know KimberlyKate, it will be uber classy. This event is open to all members, friends, and supporters. If you cannot attend the fundraiser please feel free to donate here. KimberlyKate has opened her heart and home to SgoL and I know this event will be a blast!

LilyLisa is on a team with Katrenia and Lady Vi and the three of them have put together probably our funnest fundraiser yet! Building Bonds is this Saturday, September 29 from 3pm-7pm at The Cuff. Eight local Leather Clubs will be lube wrestling for charity. These girls have put some serious hours together making the fundraiser happen and it is sure to be a slippery success!

Our Sexy Secretary, Tris and our girl, the current International Community Bootblack, Ruin, on behalf of SgoL, are hosting a benefit for the International Ms Bootblack Contest 15th Anniversary Celebration. This Leather and Lace invasion is taking place in numerous Leather communities around the US and Canada. Thanks to Tris and Ruin, we here in Seattle get to help raise awareness and funds by hosting an Invasion here on October 13th 8pm – 2am at the CSPC.

I also would like to give a shout out to our local businesses. Back Patch members receive a 10% discount at Babeland, Wild at Heart, Tandem Gear and a 20% discount at Lovers Lair and Metro. Please help support these businesses that support us.

Our next meeting the lovely Arli - all the way from Vancouver, Canada - is our speaker and she is doing a workshop on pain processing. The girls are super excited that she is taking the time to come share with us. October’s meeting is a mandatory member meeting as it is our elections. It has been a fantastic year and it is with the upmost honor and respect that I say thank you. Starting this club, serving as President has truly been one of the finest things I’ve ever done. No matter what happens during elections in a few weeks, it has been my absolute honor and privilege to serve my community. This was the second year the Seattle girls of Leather marched in the Pride parade. We kicked off our Pride with the Producers Collective, Unicorns vs. Uniforms party at Neighbors Night Club and it was a great success. We put the ‘fun’ in ‘fundraising’ and raised enough money to provide to provide a snack service on Pride weekend at both to the YWCA’s Rainbow Health Fair on Saturday and to the entire Leather Contingent after the parade. It was truly an honor marching with the Leather Contingent and supporting our community. We set up blankets by the fountain, opened up our cooler, and continued to show our Leathergirl pride and service all through the day.

This month was busy, busy, busy for the girls. We completed the painting project at the Catherine Booth house bestowing the women there with a double scrubbed, double coated kitchen. We took it from an awful avocado that should never have lived out of the 70’s, to a beautiful beige. Savanna Lurve earned her patch for taking lead on this project. She also earned ‘girl of the month’ for June, for going above and beyond the call of membership. Thank you to Christine Cummings and evil puppet your generous donations that helped to make the painting project possible.

Our girl ReeseyMay did such a great job earning her patch at the CSPC’s health sexuality day that we were asked to provide a snack service at the YWCA’s Rainbow Health Fair. We provided meat, cheese, veggies, and rainbow fruit sticks. The rain didn’t keep our sprits down and we made sure everyone at the fair, and at the Dyke March, tasted our rainbows. We also set up a table and provided safer sex education and awareness; the table also offered rainbow twizzlers. We definitely had a blast being of service and creating visibility. The YWCA was so glad to have us that they were dang near coming out of their skin asking us to come back next year.

Passion and Jessie earned their patches by doing a terrific job on the towel drive! The Seattle girls of Leather collected over five huge boxes of very needed towels for the Catherine Booth House. Thank you to everyone that donated a towel - the local women are sincerely grateful.

On Saturday July 14th from 9am – 3pm the girls will be at 4 Wheel Parts at 18121 Alderwood Mall Pkwy in Lynnwood washing car’s in bikini’s for $5. Yeah, that’s right, it’s a bikini car wash Leathergirl style. You are sure to not gonna wanna miss this. And yes, we will wash your bike, we will wash the heck out’a your bike.

On July 21st we will be tabling at Hot Flash Inferno for their SWAGGER party at Neighbors. There will be Leathergirl merchandise, raffle prizes, and lots and lots of dancing. Perhaps we can get the Luscious Lady Vi open up her spanking booth again?! I for one could use a visit with ‘bruiser’. Do you know what dancing + spanking booth + raffle prizes equal? Giddy, bouncy, sweaty, Leathergirls… mmm just the way you like’m.

Our next meeting is this Thursday July 5th at 6pm-8:30pm in the raw space of the CSPC and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the summer will bring. Stay happy and stay tuned.

In Leather,
Candace Cantrell
President of SgoL

Open Letter - June 2012

As the SgoL Board of Directors, we felt it was important to address the situation that occurred in the meeting last month and some of the negativity that is currently surrounding Seattle girls of Leather as a whole.

First and foremost, when one of our members is attacked we are all attacked. When we allow negativity and manipulation to spread we are directly undermining the integrity of the entire club.

It is unrealistic to think that you can get a group of this many people together and not have disagreements or personality conflicts, but we still share a common purpose that should always bond us together. We all stand behind the mission of this club: To provide camaraderie and a safe space to any individual who identifies as a Leathergirl. To provide community service within and outside of the Pacific Northwest Leather Community at large.

Second, there has been a lot of controversy surrounding the community service Seattle girls of Leather have provided to the Salvation Army Women’s Shelter, also known as the Catherine Booth House, because of the National policies of the Salvation Army. It is important that we clarify that the Catherine Booth House has a zero discrimination policy and does not share the same policies as the parent organization. The local shelter provides service to and fully supports the LGBT community. We have never donated money or fundraised on behalf of the Catherine Booth House or Salvation Army. We donated toiletry items to the local shelter and we painted their kitchen. We are currently having a towel drive. We feel good about the service we have provided but in response to the strong feelings of the community at large we will not continue collecting donation items or providing service to the Catherine Booth House once our towel drive is over.

Thank you to everyone who has stood strong with the club, our President and the rest of the Steering Committee. You have remained a strong, positive, united front and we cannot wait to march alongside you at Pride. The girls are seriously springing into action with their community service. Last month we debuted our back patch and the girls are eager to earn one of their own. Some of the requirements to earning a back patch besides being a full member is that you have to attend ten SgoL events and take lead on a project. So, suffice it to say, we have a lot planned for our very near future.

Saturday, the 12th of May, our girl ReeseyMay has spearheaded our presence and service at the CSPC’s Health Sexuality Day. It’s from 10am – 2pm and it’s highly encouraged to schedule your mammogram ahead of time. This will also be the kick off to our towel drive for the Salvation Army Women’s Shelter. The drive is being led by Passion. Please bring a towel, a smile, and some questions because this is sure to be an educationally fun event.

On Earth Day the girls attended a stewardship day at the Longhouse and helped to get the grounds in shape for this summer’s upcoming Paradise Unbound campout. The stewardship fell on a brilliantly warm day and we felt energized by the scintillating power of the sun and sprit from our Mother Earth. The Longhouse is a spiritual property and I surely felt a higher purpose while planting my first tree.

The last two invasions planned by our Lady Vi were a total blast! On St. Patrick’s Day the girls got gussied up and went bowling for our Leather Leprechaun Invasion of the The Garage on Capitol Hill. While bowling shoes are not the hottest, it sure didn’t stop the giggles and squeals! Yes we can throw strike outs in miniskirts! In April, we invaded Bar Myx’s kink night in Everett. There were rafters, stripper poles, and even a St. Andrews to boot. They are sure to still be talking about us in Everett. Soooo much fun!

We had our second slumber party Easter Weekend. The bad little bunnies found Easter eggs with hidden messages telling them to do something naughty and nice. There were prizes, cake, and boat loads of cackles!

SavannaLurve is organizing a painting party and placing an order for some lovely Leather girl corsets from the magnificent Ms. Martha. The girls will be taking the kitchen at the Salvation Army’s Women Shelter on Capitol Hill from a pea green to beautiful beige.

The Producers Collective has named The Seattle girls of Leather the beneficiary of their annual fundraiser. We will be at Neighbors Night Club on Thursday, June 14th from 7:00- 10:00pm. This will be the official Pride Kickoff party for The Seattle Girls of Leather and the end of our towel drive. $5 off admission if you bring a bath towel.

On March 25th, WSMLO gave the Leather Emerald Award to us for our extraordinary support, efforts and extended contributions to the Washington State Leather Community. We are truly honored and offer most sincere thanks. We love our community and will continue to serve it with our great girl sprit.

Keep your ears and eyes peeled for our presence at Seattle’s Pride and Slutwalk, a bikini car wash, a Leather girl calendar, and oil wrestling!

SgoL was started in order to bring together like minded Leathergirls, providing a safe space where we could come, ask questions, socialize together, provide service to the community and have light hearted camaraderie. SgoL has adapted almost everything we have from the SFgoL. While we are a club, we are still a professional organization and will continue to carry ourselves as such. We might not be a good fit for everyone, but we sure hope that we can bestow you with a smile or two. September will mark a year in service for the SgoL. We have grown, changed, and adapted so much in just eight short months. I love and adore what the club has grown into and I look forward to what the future has in store for us.

In Leather,
Candace Cantrell

SgoL March 2012 President's Message

President’s Message
March 2012

My last message in November 2011 let you all know about all the amazing things that had happened in the fall of 2011. Just when I thought SgoL couldn’t possibly top all that activity, the members of SgoL have yet again surpassed all my wildest dreams and have been busy indeed!

Over Thanksgiving Weekend, SgoL was of service at the Seattle Daddy/Daddy's boy contest held at The Cuff. The toiletry drive concluded during the contest and attendee’s helped us out immensely with their generous donations. Special props to Nix for doing such a great job as the Judge’s Runner.

On December 3, SgoL attended Hot Flash Inferno. Hot Flash is an over-40’s, all women’s dance event. It was a blast! We raffled off some great prizes and shook our collective booties all over Neighbors Nightclub. Lady Vi was back with her tantalizing spanking booth and

New Year’s Eve was quite the event for SgoL. We hosted the big bash at the CSPC. It was a magnificent evening! Everyone who attended raved about the night. Marfim did a great job with coordinating the volunteers and staff.

From the beautiful decorations and atmosphere created by Mare and her crew, to the delectable food created by GirlonFire, to the great entertainment provided by DJ’s Mariu5, D.J. Ren 1, and DJ t333bone, and the delightfully sexy performances by burlesque performers led by Luscious Lady Pop. It was a fantastic evening capped off by dancing and a very busy dungeon full of great play.

February 4th brought SgoL to Bang for the Buck and the funny rendition of LMFAO’s “Sexy and I Know It” brought SgoL a third place finish their first time at Bang. We also did our first Leathergirl Invasion at The Wildrose. We had a blast doing a train through the bar and eliciting laughter from the other patrons. Every month, SgoL will be “invading” some bar, restaurant, or event in the area, bringing our special brand of fun to the community.

SgoL was honored to receive the 2011 Group of the Year award from the CSPC during the annual volunteer recognition event and the 2011 Emerald Community Service Award from WSMLO. I’m so proud of SgoL and so pleased that our girls have been recognized for the hard work they have done over the past year. We are all motivated to make 2012 an even bigger and better year.

February 29, 2012 Press Release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SEATTLE girls of LEATHER MAKE THEIR MARK ON SEATTLE

February 29, 2012, Seattle, WA
Contact: Candace Cantrell
Candacecan2@gmail.com or 425-894-1321

SEATTLE girls of LEATHER MAKE THEIR MARK ON SEATTLE

Started in June 2011, the Seattle girls of Leather (SgoL) have exploded onto the local (and not so local) Leather, kink and sex-positive communities. With a small “g” and capital “L” representing their respect to Leather protocol, SgoL carries a sense of tradition and service into everything they do. Building bridges and injecting a powerful energy into everyone and anyone fortunate enough to meet them, they’ve charged the Leather community with a renewed sense of camaraderie and vitality.

During the International Ms. Leather Contest in San Francisco in March 2011, the San Francisco girls of Leather were a constant and inspiring presence. SgoL Founder and President, Candace Cantrell, came back home excited to bring a similar energy and vitality to Seattle’s Leather Community. “So many of the clubs and organizations are geared at Leathermen, or Tops, or are focused on only certain communities. What I saw in San Francisco was a group of girls who had fun, were diverse, and doing great community service and I wanted that here in Seattle.” By the end of April, Candace had pulled together an initial group to form SgoL and they made their presence known at Seattle Pride in June.

SgoL’s mission is twofold: to provide camaraderie and a safe space to any individual who identifies as a Leathergirl; and to provide community service within in the region. Since June 2011, SgoL has been busy indeed! Every single month the Leathergirl presence has been felt at both members only and community-wide events. After their debut at Pride, SgoL launched a months-long toiletry drive to benefit the Salvation Army Women’s Shelter. There was a members-only slumber party. SgoL members were of service the NW LeatherSir, Leather boy and Community Bootblack contest – with one of their own, Ruin, winning the title of Community Bootblack. They did a painting party to paint the cabin built at The Longhouse for CSPC Executive Director, Allena Gabosch. They hosted hospitality during the Leather Reign V Conference. SgoL brought their groove to Hot Flash in December and threw two huge and amazing parties at the Center for Sex Positive Culture (CSPC). First, the All Hallow's Eve Masquerade of Decadence which was a fundraiser for the Washington State Ms. Leather travel fund and then the New Year’s Eve party for the CSPC. And that isn’t even close to being a complete list of SgoL activities. More recently, SgoL has started Leathergirl Invasions to do even more outreach in the local community. Upcoming events where SgoL will have a definite presence include Kinkfest, the Washington State Mr. and Ms. Leather Contest, International Ms. Leather contest, the Sound to Narrows Run, a monthly Leathergirl Invasion, and more. Upcoming charitable events include a car wash fundraiser for the White Center Food Bank.

Along with all the special events, SgoL has a monthly meeting at the CSPC (first Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm). The meeting starts with a guest speaker bringing education and entertainment to the members and guests. In less than a year, SgoL has grown to a core of 33 full members and many more associates, supporters, and admirers. Not only was this a direct need for the Center for Sex Positive Culture director Allena, but one for the greater portion of the community at large.

Light drizzle set in on Friday evening as I watched the weather report evolve to forecasted showers for the following afternoon. Deciding to press forward despite the expected afternoon rain was a bit risky, but hey; who doesn't like to get a little wet?
Feeling confident we could finish and dry before the rain set in, Saturday morning October 1st at 9:30 a.m. Candace and I set up muffins and fruit with some coffee and juice. We started taping up the windows and cedar trim while we waited for the rest of the girls to arrive.

In no time Marfim showed up. After that, a few more girls, then a few more. An hour in and we were busting open our cans of paint! "Ready to roll!" Before the painting commenced, there was a reflection of thankfulness for all who had a part in seeing this cabin come to fruition and all the love and energy it took to create the space in such a short amount of time. We as a group, carried those thoughts and loving energy straight onto the walls of our project. Overflowing with intent and brandishing sharpie markers, each of us created messages of love and prosperity directly onto the walls of the cabin.

The teamwork and solidarity was unmatched in my experience of painting projects I have ever been apart of. A few months ago I attended IMsL in San Francisco. My Daddy, Spencer (a former IMsL) had not been in awhile & it was my first time. We had an absolute blast and were impressed with how the traditions are being upheld. It felt different than Seattle (where I live now) and different than LA (where I used to live). I felt I was amongst family - strongly bonded Leather family. There was a fierce girl presence that I had never seen or felt before. I had suddenly stumbled across what was missing from my Leather lifestyle & journey - family and girl power.

The San Francisco girls of Leather were everywhere. I wanted to join and come down monthly just to feel this energy. They were alive & freakin' kickin'! When I came home to Seattle & went to my first kink event since IMsL, I was sadly disappointed. I missed that energy that SFgoL brought. I whined to my Daddy and told him again that I really wished we had a Leathergirl group here. He, being the awesome Daddy that he is, said "start one". So I did and 6 months later we have 20 full members and 95 supporters.

Part of what I witnessed at IMsL and what I've felt was missing here at home was a sense of unity. I know for many that term is overused but....it really reflects what I have felt was missing. Everything feels so separated & segregated - especially where gender & sexual orientation are key. There is a gap in the Leather community here in the PNW. Right now the gay men, pansexuals, sex positive, lesbians, and transgender people all play in separate corners. It is my hope that SgoL can can help to create bridges and that the Seattle Leathergirls are welcomed everywhere. And beyond that, by giving girls leadership roles and encouraging them to take lead in projects they are learning first hand what it means to be a Leathergirl.

The Seattle girls rock. Twenty four rsvp'd to the slumber party and all 24 came! We are currently holding a toiletry drive benefiting the Salvation Army Women's program. We were of service the NW LeatherSir, boy and Community Bootblack contest. We are planning on painting Allena's cabin at The Longhouse. We're hosting hospitality Friday night at Leather Reign V. The girls are throwing an "All Hallow's Eve Masquerade of Decadence" on October 29 at The CSPC. SgoL's share of the door will go to the Washington State Ms. Leather travel fund.

There are many other things in the works, and we've only just begun.

I'm very excited to see what the future will hold and to be able to report to you every month on what an amazing group of women are part of SgoL and the amazing things we're doing.

In Leather,
Your SgoL president,
Candace Cantrell

Congratulations 2012 LeatherSir, Leatherboy and Community Bootblack 2012!

Generic Leather Productions of Washington held the NW LeatherSir, Leatherboy and Community Bootblack 2012 competition on Saturday, September 3rd.

Congratulations to NW LeatherSir 2012 Jim Drew, Leatherboy Danny and Community Bootblack, SgoL’s own Ruin!
